The Devils (1971) - Seven Devils

This film is about Compulsory Correctness.

Now, whether the practice and doctrine of compulsory correctness entails compulsory correctness in the religious, the social, the environmental, or in the political -- it matters nothing at all.

The character, portrayed by late actor Oliver Reed, was Urbaine Grandier (1590-1634).

It appears, as based in his life, that he fell afoul of powerful Cardinal Richelieu for political reasons, was tried for witchcraft, sentenced to death, and burned at the stake.

The ending scene in which the burning of the stake takes place shows the multitudes singing and cheering as the poor guy is being barbecued alive.

As I see it, the attitude of these nihilistic multitudes reflects the attitudes of modern day leftists when their ire is aroused only by exercises in correctness but when someone from our side falls victim, such is their response.
